Right Wing Media in Florida

  • The Floridian: This website is run by a South Florida conservative who makes a living off trashing democrats. He tries to write very sensational and “juicy” headlines with the goal of getting clicks and selling to advertisers. It’s not real news, and pretty bad writing, too.

  • The Capitolist: The name alone gives away this website’s goal, but the fact that it was founded by a former Rick Scott communications director is enough evidence to be suspicious. Today this website basically exists for Florida Power and Light (FPL) -- it is literally owned by the company’s consultants (Read more about that here and here.) The site writes fluff pieces for FPL and other big companies, like the sugar industry, while attacking anyone who challenges these companies and their corporate agenda.

  • Florida’s Voice: This website is run for a former TV reporter that was fired and is funded by a right wing donor named Alfie Oakes. The entire goal of this website is to boost DeSantis and candidates who it’s paid to boost. For example, the website has recently attacked Anthony Sabatini and it’s only because it’s getting paid to do that. The owner of this website doesn’t actually care about Sabatini, he’s just a grifter who is looking to get paid and spread far right propaganda.

  • Florida Standard: This site has been propped up by the office of Governor DeSantis to be used as a seemingly legitimate news source. In fact, when this website was first created, the ONLY people who even engaged with it were members of the DeSantis Administration.

  • The Center Square: This website is funded by conservative organizations to write conservative pieces and then INSERT them into local print papers. Be wary..

  • Florida Politics: This is one of Florida’s most well known blogs and though they do have real reporters on staff, one should be mindful of any reporting they do that involves corporations or lobbyists. These are entities that pay for placement and promotion. You can learn more here

Everyone knows about Fox News, OAN, BreitBart, Alex Jones, etc. But here in Florida we have our own list of super problematic right-wing media outlets that PRETEND to be legitimate news. This list won’t include all of these “outlets” but it does include six of them. Please always check a source when reading a “news” article. You’ll be surprised how insidious many of these websites are.
